Forensic Services

Disability Evaluations

Mental health evaluations focused on current functioning, symptoms, relevant history, and the ways psychological or behavioral-health concerns may affect daily life and occupational functioning.

Immigration-Related Mental Health Evaluations

Independent mental health evaluations addressing the psychological impact of experiences or circumstances relevant to an immigration matter, based on the referral question and available records.

Personal Injury & Emotional Distress Evaluations

Evaluation of psychological symptoms, functioning, history, and reported emotional impact when mental health concerns are relevant to a personal injury or emotional-distress matter.

Other Forensic Mental Health Matters

Some referrals do not fit neatly into one category. Requests are reviewed individually to determine whether the referral question is within the scope of services offered by Personal Best T & C.

What a Forensic Evaluation May Include

Depending on the referral question, an evaluation may include a clinical interview, review of relevant records, assessment of current symptoms and functioning, standardized measures when appropriate, and collateral information when available and authorized.

A written report may be prepared to summarize relevant history, assessment findings, clinical impressions, and opinions related to the referral question. The specific process varies depending on the type and purpose of the evaluatio

Forensic evaluation is different from therapy.

The evaluator’s role is to assess and provide an independent professional opinion related to a specific referral question. A forensic evaluation does not establish a psychotherapy relationship, and the usual expectations of confidentiality may be different because information may be shared with the referring party or other authorized recipients.

An evaluation does not guarantee a particular diagnosis, recommendation, disability determination, legal outcome, or other finding.

For Attorneys & Referral Sources

Personal Best works with attorneys and other professional referral sources to clarify the referral question, identify relevant records and information, and determine whether the requested evaluation is within the scope of services provided.

Referral inquiries should include enough information to understand the purpose of the evaluation, anticipated deadlines, relevant records, and the intended use of the report. Additional information may be requested before an evaluation is accepted.
